From Crailsheim, the tour leads through picturesque river valleys of the Swabian Alb, into the Eselsburg Valley, to the Blautopf and finally ends in the oldest Staufer town of Schwäbisch Gmünd. The route also leads directly through Oberkochen, so a stop at the VILOTEL invites you to enjoy and relax before setting off on the next stage.

The award-winning long-distance hiking trail passes sheep farms, juniper heaths and calcareous grasslands. Far away from everyday life, in the lonely footsteps of shepherds. The best way to discover the beauty of the Swabian Alb is to hike the entire distance in 10 stages. The route takes you from the Lone Valley to the Eselsburg Valley, through the Steinheim Basin (the best-preserved meteorite crater in southern Germany), past the rock formations in the Wental Valley and to Härtsfeldsee near Neresheim.

From the VILOTEL, the route leads through the Wolfertstal valley to the first climb up the Langertstein – what a view over Oberkochen. Now take the direct path to the Aalbäumle with a great view overAalen and the foothills of the Schwäbichen Alb. A short detour to the “Bänkle” (at the Aalen ski lift) before the downhill passage back to Wolfertstal and the last big climb up Oberkochen’s local mountain – the Volkmarsberg. Here you can take a break – there is a catered club hut (Schwäbischer Albverein). The trail zigzags down to our starting point.

On a scale of 1 to 1 billion you start from the VILOTEL through the solar system to Pluto on the Volkmarsberg. And all in just 2 hours! This fantastic hike through the Wolfertstal to the Volkmarsberg is accompanied by display boards, pictures and models of planets and the sun. With one step 600,000 km and thus almost once to the moon and back or almost 15 times around the earth. Also suitable for families with children.

Our tour suggestion leads you from the VILOTEL to the vantage point Langerstein with a breathtaking view into the Kochertal and over Oberkochen. We continue to the Aalbäumle with a fantastic view of Aalen, before the last ascent to Oberkochen’s local mountain and thus to the highest point of the tour, the Volkmarsberg, awaits you. The circular trail extends over 16.7 km from the lowest point of the VILOTEL (500m) up to 743m to the Volkmarsberg (hut with catering).
